The 75th Primetime Emmy award ceremony made it a point to shine the spotlight on Hollywood’s classic TV shows like Cheers, All In The Family, The Sopranos, and more. The comedy category also got its moment with Carol Burnett from The Carol Burnett Show present to announce the Leading Actress in a Comedy Award winner.

Carol, whose production won up to 25 Emmys during its 11-year run, presented the award to Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson. “I was lucky enough to be the first female host of a comedy show,” the comedy icon said. “That was a long time ago, and I just want to say that a lot has changed in the last 46 years for the better.”

Carol continued her speech in the spirit of humor with the punchline, “Progress has been made. And it truly warms my heart to see how well men are doing in comedy now.” Being one of the industry’s leading comediennes, the 90-year-old is also a Peabody and Golden Globe Lifetime Achievement award winner, amongst several other recognitions.

Her wits aside, Carol looked stunning in a black turtleneck top with a matching satin blazer and a high-waisted, velvet maxi skirt. She complimented the outfit with sheer black tights, ballet flats, a gold necklace, bangles, earrings, and a pair of eyeglasses.

90 years old and ‘won’t stop’

For Carol, work continues “as long as I’m healthy, and I’ve got my brain.” She has no plans to retire again since she deems herself fit and in love with her craft. “Thank God—and if it’s fun to do, I’ll do it,” she said in an interview. The actress has been busy in the past couple of years, filming the final season of Better Call Saul and Apple TV + comedy Palm Royale alongside Allison Janney and Leslie Bibb.

The Queen of comedy, who turns 91 in April, claimed she felt like an eleven-year-old on becoming a nonagenarian. Her last birthday was celebrated with an NBC special titled Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love, and the celebration blew her away. “I was absolutely gobsmacked by the evening,” she told Page Six then. “It was incredible. It’s not a birthday party. It’s not a roast. It’s a variety show.”
