“People ask me what they should do about being in this business.
I say, learn the three Rs: redundancy, rejection, and resting.”
George Harrison asked Victor Spinetti to be in The Beatles’ first films “A Hard Day’s Night” (1964) and “Help!” (1965) because George’s mother loved Victor’s work and George said to Victor, “Me mum will only go to see them if you’re in them.” But Harrison also later told him, “You’ve got a lovely karma, Vic.”
Paul McCartney once described Spinetti as “the man who makes clouds disappear.”
The woolly sweater worn by Spinetti in “A Hard Day’s Night” was his own.
The sweater was given to him as a gift and later given to a fan club that had asked him for it.
Two years after “Help!” Spinetti showed up as an Army Sergeant in the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour” (1967).
McCartney paid tribute to Spinetti on his website after the latter’s death in 2012: “Victor was a fine man, a great pal and a fantastic actor and someone I am proud to have known for many years. His irreverent wit and exuberant personality will remain in my memory forever.
I will miss his loyal friendship as will all the others who were lucky enough to know and love the wonderful Mr Spinetti.” (IMDb/Wikipedia)
Happy Birthday, Victor Spinetti!
