Barbara Ann Goldbach (who we know as Barbara Bach) was fortunate enough to have attended the famous Beatles concert at Shea Stadium, 15 years before she would meet her future husband, Beatles drummer Ringo Starr on the set of “Caveman” (1981).
Before she met Starr and the two fell in love, Bach is on record as saying that she was originally disappointed that the lead part had gone to him instead of “a top comedian like Dudley Moore.”
Older sister Marjorie would marry Eagles/James Gang guitarist Joe Walsh.
Bach’s most famous film role is of a Russian spy in “The Spy Who Loved Me” (1977).
Because she spoke with a Russian accent in that film, and because most of her other film roles were either in Italian or French, everyone assumed that she was European and refused to cast her in American roles.
The truth is she was born and raised in New York, NY and speaks English with an American accent, even after her marriages to an Italian businessman and to Starr.
It was between Barbara and Shelley Hack to replace Kate Jackson on “Charlie’s Angels.” The New York-born Barbara was deemed too “European” and sophisticated for the role, and Hack won the role. However, Hack was not keenly accepted as an “Angel” by audiences and left after only one season. (IMDb)
Happy Birthday, Barbara Bach!
